Privacy policy, in plain language

1. What this site collects

RestfulPicks ("we") is a reading site, with no accounts and no comment boxes. We collect two things: visit counts from an analytics service, and what you send us by form or email.

We collect no sleep or health data from readers. We don't build profiles of visitors, and we sell nothing about anyone.

2. What happens to a message you send

The contact form sends your name, email address, topic and message to our own inbox. An email to contact@restfulpicks.com arrives in the same place.

We use it only to reply and, when you report an error, to fix the page. It is never added to a mailing list, sold or passed to advertisers, and is kept only while we need it; you can ask us to delete it at any time.

3. Analytics and Do Not Track

An analytics service counts visits and shows which pages are read. It records the page you opened, the site that sent you, your device and browser type, and a rough location worked out from your IP address.

We read these numbers as totals, never to identify you or for advertising. No advertising network runs on RestfulPicks, and we don't use our analytics, or let it be used, to follow you across other sites over time. You can block analytics in your browser settings or with a content blocker; the site works the same.

If your browser asks not to be tracked

RestfulPicks does not act differently when a browser sends a "Do Not Track" request, because there is no agreed standard for a response. Blocking analytics, as above, is how to opt out.

4. Cookies

RestfulPicks sets no advertising cookies. If our analytics service sets a cookie to recognize a returning browser, it is a first-party cookie used only for counting, and your browser settings can clear or block it.

5. Leaving for a store

"Check price" links open a store (see our disclosure). When you follow one, you leave RestfulPicks; the store may set its own cookies, and its privacy policy applies from then on.

6. Files your browser fetches from others

Our typefaces come from Google Fonts and many photos from image hosts; each sees your IP address and browser type when your browser fetches a file, as any server does. Our hosting provider processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver pages and to stop abuse.

7. Security

Every page and the contact form are served over an encrypted connection. The only visitor data we store is a message you send us, and only we can read it.

8. Children

RestfulPicks is written for adults and is not aimed at children under 13. We don't knowingly gather anything from children, and a message we learn came from a child is deleted.

9. Your requests

You can ask what we hold about you, which in practice means a message you sent us, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted. Write to contact@restfulpicks.com or choose "A privacy request" on the contact page.

10. Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the "In effect since" date at the top of this page changes with it, and the new text applies from that day.
